Description
Lyric Opera of Los Angeles (LOLA) was founded in 2002 by Laura Sage in order to bring lost operatic gems back to the stage. After an initial production of Mozart's Die Entfürung aus dem Serail (which hadn't been being performed very often in the area at the time), LOLA put on the West Coast premiere staged production of Heinrich Marschner's Der Vampyr. The production met with great success and marked the beginning of a series of premiere production put on by the company, including: Cendrillon by Pauline Viardot, Goyescas by Enrique Granados, Rita by Gaetano Donizetti, Abu Hassan by C. M. von Weber, Manon Lescaut by D.F.E. Auber, and Un Giorno di Regno by Giuseppe Verdi. LOLA has been fortunate to have some of the brightest and best singers in the area perform in their productions, and they have built a reputation for high artistic & musical quality on a shoe-string budget. The artists who work with LOLA return time and time again because they find it to be a rewarding and unique experience.
