EVENT DESCRIPTION

THE YOUNG SIEGFRIED

A free one-hour event for youth, parents and educators to introduce Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle through a public conversation, followed by a performance of the “Siegfried Idyll” by 26 of the best LA-area high school musicians.

Discussion themes will include how this birthday present to Wagner's wife relates to the operas, as well as an age-appropriate discussion of Wagner's anti-Semitism.

This Jacaranda concert/discussion culminates a day-long workshop for high school students. They will be coached by Jacaranda professionals, who will perform the work in a larger musical context with the May 22, 8pm concert PRUSSIAN BLUES. Jacaranda Music Director Mark Alan Hilt will conduct. Artistic Director Patrick Scott will lead the discussion with special guests.

PARTNER DESCRIPTION

Jacaranda is designed for newcomers, recording collectors, and edge-loving connoisseurs listening with a sense of discovery and all the social benefits that only live concerts can provide. Jacaranda is a series of adventures — unforgettable new and modern music bnext to music from centuries past played by brilliant musicians. Each concert has a point of view and the series, as a whole, is rich with musical relationships that are satisfying on many levels.

Jacaranda’s creators, Patrick Scott and Mark Alan Hilt, have an insightful way of programming music that lifts the concert experience to an exciting level. Jacaranda presents music mostly missing from the cultural life of Los Angeles in compelling performances that make you wonder why. This team brings to Jacaranda a broad and unexpected background. Their critically acclaimed approach has proven fresh and effective in re-imagining the concert-going experience with unusually informative program notes.
