RING FESTIVAL LA NOW ONLINE
WEBSITE SHOWCASES MORE THAN 100 CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS WHO HAVE JOINED WITH LA OPERA IN CELEBRATING THE ARTS, LA STYLE Citywide Festival Runs April 15-June30, 2010 (Los Angeles, CA) August 25, 2009 - In 2010, LA Opera will join forces with more than 100 cultural and educational institutions in Los Angeles to stage Ring Festival LA, a citywide celebration of arts and culture based on LA Opera's first-time presentation of Richard Wagner's epic Ring cycle. LA Opera created the new website: RingFestivalLA.com an online resource to serve the needs of those interested in learning more about the events, seminars, and exhibitions that will take place in a wide variety of educational and cultural venues throughout Southern California during the ten-week long celebration. According to Plácido Domingo, LA Opera's Eli and Edythe Broad General Director, "When I first discussed the idea of creating a Ring Festival at a Los Angeles Times roundtable in March 2008 with several of my colleagues from other cultural institutions, we all thought that it would be a wonderful way to celebrate the diversity of our city's world-class cultural offerings, centered on a genuine cultural milestone: the first complete Ring cycles ever presented in Los Angeles. Opera, and especially the Ring, invites exactly this sort of intensive analysis and discussion, and the Festival will provide many different forums for gaining insights into the past and exploring moral issues." The new RingFestivalLA.com website features a timely newsroom that features articles of interest, fact sheets and news releases. The "Partners" section provides a full listing of participating organizations as well as listings of the events that are taking place at cultural and educational institutions throughout the region and links to the Partners. In addition, there are links to LA's first-ever Ring cycle and resources for further study, e-newsletter sign-up and archive, and invitations to engage with Ring Festival LA via the Festival blog multimedia section. There are also social media links to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube. "Los Angeles is a disparate, diverse and experimental city - divided and separated in so many ways," said Barry Sanders, Ring Festival Leader. "Ring Festival LA will bind the community together through the many entertaining, thought provoking, and enlightening events that will take place during the festival. What makes this a great city is what happens here and we intend this to be a celebration felt by everyone. I am delighted that the public can now begin to plan out the events they will want to engage in during the run of the festival by visiting RingFestivalLA.com." RING FESTIVAL LA PARTNERS
